An Italian Sabbatical

I will be on Leave from my job as a high school art teacher from September 2008- January 2009. From November to December I will be researching stone sculpture in Tuscany, Italy. Watch for postcards from Italy during these months.

OBX Totem Approved

The Dare County Master Gardeners received a grant to have my OBX Totem design carved into Indiana Limestone. This will be my main artistic focus until September 2009 when it is scheduled to be unveiled at Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. The sculpture will stand nearly ten feet tall.

Stone goes digital and Carver Studios is now part of the World Wide Web! Working closely with former student Sarah Gulick and her partners at Studio Up! I have developed a site to share my portfolio and works in progress. I hope especially to share the stories, process, and techniques as well as travels associated with my stone carving.

September 5 & 6- The Stone Carver's Guild Annual meeting in Bloomington, Indiana. Tour stone mills and Victor Oolitic Limestone Quarry

September 16- Aesthetic committee for OBX Totem visit my studio to view sculpture at 'roughing in' stage. All features are to be visible but not refined.

October 8- Virginia Neighbors Magazine will interview me for January issue.

November & December- Artistic pilgrimage to Italy. The majority of the trip will be sculpting marble in Pietrasanta with two trips to Florence and Rome to research Michelangelo and Bernini's figurative work.

January 2009- Return to teach second semester, Liberty High School
